Sesat in Singapore: Clarke Quay & Brewerkz

Although I’ve been to Singapore (let me count, erm…I think maybe more than 5 times) but I never step a foot in Clarke Quay before.  Damn pai-seh right?  Basically, Clarke Quay is the place to hang out, if you really can’t think of any other specific places to go.  Really, its like all chill out places under one roof!  kekeke.  Let’s take a look around, shall we?

I’m sorry, picture is a bit blur.  see that round round thingy? Its some sort of bungy jump thingy.

They got Umbrella, big enough, to fit a giant, weird enough to match the outfit of an alien

UFO with proper lighting just landed at Clarke Quay doorstep

Run Run Run! Those are like guns with real big bullets!

Remember Hooters from Taipei?  THey have it here too, in Singapore.

Then came across this drinking place that follows the theme of a clinic/hospital

I’m not sure bout you, but I’m pretty “pantang” and i think its a curse if u were to sit on a wheel chair, when u are perfectly fine!

Rebel Boutique Club

The girl in front is not included in your drinks at mama’s

I found this cute box on top of a rubbish bin.  How sad.  =( Its a proper box!

The side seatings (by the river), told you the alien just landed

Then we get to the other side of the river, which is the Riverside Point

And we went to…….. Brewerkz!

Guess what?  They brew beer on their own right here.  See all the big big “tong” behind?  That’s like part of the brewery, and they brew quite a variety of beers here.  :)  Actually there’s plenty of brewery in Singapore (i.e. Red Dot)

Souvenirs?

And since I do not know which flavour of beer I should try, I decided to call the sampler set and got like 12 sets and it can actually last me throughout the night, cos Brewerkz close pretty early la. hehehe

*cheers* blurdevil

Sesat in Singapore: Singapore Flyer

I haven’t even been to Eye on Malaysia!  You can’t blame me k? They *pandai pandai* shift to Malacca when I decided to go k.  tee hee.  Anyway, like I say, this trip to Singapore is meant to be a bit tourist-y cos, I’ve been assigned to be the tour guide for the day.  :)  So Singapore Flyer, here we come!

I decided to bring them to Singapore Flyer, only in the evening, mainly because of the view!  Seriously, there’s too much construction going on around Singapore, mainly the Sands Casino.  So night time is our best bet, as you can see the lights, which often not, will not disappoint.

Before going in to the main area to get into the capsules, you will be ask to take picture behind this green walls, then they’ll super-impose your pictures with the flyers.  Its normal, no? We actually bought the pictures, cos its not often I get to take picture with Nirav!

The flyer is equip with variety of Neon Lighting.  Purple

You think the Capsules look small? It can fit up to 28 people at one go!

While waiting for the capsule to move up, up, up!  Remember to test your camera settings.  I’m just using a compact camera.  It took me a while to set it correctly.  No flash, the whole picture look blur, got flash, too near, cannot see anything!  hahaha… These are all my best shots.  And the neon colour from the flyer is not helping either!  Most of the pics have the neon colour reflection on the screen! haha

Me + Dina

See the lights on the right hand side? Its all the on-going construction for Sands.

me + Nirav + Dina

Max + Me + Dina

One of my best-est shot!

Can you see the Durian?

Check out the traffic jam! Cos its weak day and peak hour!

Will I be going up again? No la, unless it sponsored cos its pretty pricey at SGD29.50 per person for 30 minutes ride!

Sesat in Singapore: ION Orchard

As if Orchard Road is not famous tourist-y enough, ION Orchard opens it door (yeah in Orchard) to tempt you into high-end shopping.  During my April trip (for the CATS musical), ION Orchard was (still) under construction.  So this time around, I just gotta drop by and look around!

Honest opinion, I can’t find any reason, why Singapore or Orchard Road for the matter of fact, needs another shopping mall.  The shops in there is like exact replica of Paragon, coupled with some Takashimaya.  But then again, I guess, they do insert some new shops, like Uniqlo (but it wasn’t open yet, when I was there).  And maybe, being a human nature, we like everything new, so I don’t mind shopping there (that’s if I really got something in mind la).

You gotta look cool in front of Orchard Road, k? Read some world news!

I just found new picture-partner

ION Orchard – Exterior (looks nicer at night!)

Cartier (If I can ever afford, I’ll go for the Trinity ring!…drool)

Louis Vuitton.  I heard the queue is pretty long on weekend

Longchamp.  They got special discount for Citibank card holders for the Le Pilage range!

Take a seat if you’re tired!

And one of the “longest” escalator.

Sounds like me!

They even have Exhibition hall dedicated to Arts!

A very long 3D art!

I was running out of time, so I did not visit the Food Court.  On my next trip, I will!

Sesat in Singapore: Merlion Park

Sesat = Lost for those not familiar with the Malay language.  =)

Staying in Johore, automatically qualifies you to visit Singapore whenever you are free.  Like seriously.  I’ve been to Singapore pretty (much) when I was younger.  But I never do the tourist stuff, nothing like that.  And guess what? I haven’t even visit the Merlion statue in Merlion Park.  And for the first time, in year 2009, I decided to go there because Nirav and Dina is the tourist from Perth!  =)  I need to do my job as the tour planner, no?  :)

Do you know there is 5 (certified) Merlion in the country?  The original statue is situated in Merlion Park, the second one is a slightly smaller Merlion behind the original statue, there’s one Merlion in Sentosa Island (someone argue with me that the Merlion in Sentosa Island is the original one!), there’s another one at Tourism Court and another one in Mount Faber.

Obviously we went to the original statue in Merlion Park.  Its pretty near to Marina Bay and this is the place to take picture, nothing else.  :P Oh there’s no entrance fee, so snap all you want.  :P

Situated opposite Fullerton Hotel

Singapore future gambling den aka casino (Marina Bay Sands)

As you walk, you’ll see the lion, no, the mermaid, no, I mean the Merlion

Nirav found a free source for hair wash!

I check out the Merlion’s huge “back-door”

And they actually built a viewing dock right in front of the Merlion, so that you can take pictures!

And I present to you the mini Merlion (the second Merlion statue)

Do you see what I see?  I wonder what’s the batang in front of this merlion

There’s no MRT which stops right in front of MRT.  We took the cab cos there’s four of us and its cheaper that way.  ;)  Tell the cab driver you want to go to Merlion Park.  Once you reach the taxi stand, go into the entrance (you’ll know what I mean when you are there) and walk in until you see the outdoor area, turn left, walk straight and you’ll see the Merlion.  Else if you were to take the MRT, either stop at City Hall or Raffles Place, and its approximately a 15 minutes walk from there.  :)

Slurp in Singapore: Dim Joy

If you know me well enough, you should know that I love Dim Sum that I don’t mind having dim sum every single day.  That’s provided its nice la.  So when Nirav wanted to meet me in Singapore, he trusted me with the itinerary (including restaurants etc).  Dim Joy is one of the restaurants to visit (in my itinerary) and since its right in Chinatown, I can bring Nirav to look-see-look-see the Chinatown surrounding.  :)

Anyway, if you want to visit Dim Joy, my advice is to make a reservation first.  Since it was a weekday, and we avoid the lunch crowd, we got there around 1130am or so, and most of the tables are taken (reserved) and there is only one table (near the entrance) which was available at that time.  So we took that table but the air conditioner is a bitch!  It was like hot and mind you, there is only like one table occupied.  :I

The outdoor sitting area

Inside Dim Joy – Simple settings (but they must do something about the air-cond)

There is one plus point for Dim Joy, which is small little things, like telling the story of some chinese “legends”.  There’s a paper (behind the chopsticks) that list down the story/legends of some Chinese traditions, which includes, The Origin of Finger Tapping (you know when someone pour chinese tea, we will tap our finger?), meaning of Yum Cha, the norm for Teapot Refills, The Importance of Toothpicks, Chopstick Etiquette and not forgetting the meaning of Dim Sum.

Chinese Tea (Price varies from SGD1.50 – SGD3.00 per person depending on the tea you choose)

King Shrimp Har Gao (SGD4.00), All dim sum are freshly made upon order and this you can tell from this har gao, fresh prawn.  Although the skin can be a bit thinner, but I think its ok cos a lot of other dim sum place serve the har gao with like super thick skin (So Dim Joy one is acceptable).  You know the feeling when you eat your har gao, only to be *yuck* by the skin and remove the skin, only to eat the prawn by itself?

Honey Syrup Char Siew Bao (SGD4.00).  This char siew bao skin is nice, really soft! But the minced pork meat inside is ok ok only.  :)

Shrimps & Chives in Rice Roll (SGD5.00).  The rice roll is not bad too!  The skin is thicker than what we usually have but the whole roll is coated evenly with the sauce that makes it taste so smooth.  :)

I forgotten what is this called but its very nice.  The vegetable , dried mushroom and the chives makes the whole dish so delightful!

Must order this Century Egg with Lean Pork Congee (SGD9.00).  The porridge is so smooth, you might mistaken it for soup but then again, at the same time, its so tasteful!  Although I hate century egg, I still find this congee nice!

Steamed Spare Ribs with Garlic (SGD5.50).  I find this dish so-so.  I think the marinade/garlic is not strong enough.  Just like eating plain spare ribs, a bit bland.

Siew Mai (SGD3.50).  You know, my siew mai requirement is pretty simple.  Make sure that the siew mai don’t smell like one old pork.  Don’t get me wrong, I think its pretty important to make the siew mai, minus the strong pork smell.  You know what I mean if you are a regular dim sum eat-er. Look the siew mai is pretty big, k?  *love*

Pan Fried Radish Cake (SGD3.00).  This is nice too, what I like, is that you still can taste the small strips of (fresh) radish.

Ok, here comes the killer.  I really love the Char Siew So (SGD3.50).  The pastry is flaky and crispy.  I don’t know how to describe, but this is really really nice. Must try.

And here comes by all-time favourite (i mean dim sum) is the Custard Bun (SGD3.00).  The filling of custard and salty egg yolk is on the mild side and the skin is a bit too thick for my liking.  But this is so much nicer compare to those places in KL (i.e. Reunion Bangsar)

I guess I’ll come back (if I got time) the next time I visit SIngapore.  =)
