Malaysia International Gourmet Festival = MIGF

MIGF brings together various restaurants together to bring fine dining to a different level.  =)  There is a whole lots of restaurants to choose from, where the cuisine ranges from the usual Chinese-Cantonese, Fine Malay, Northern Indian, Contemporary Asian to foreign taste like Swiss, Italian, Modern Japanese, Mediterranean, Modern Australian and more.

MIGF 2008 runs from 01 November – 30 November 2008 with various festival menus to choose from.  Me and my colleagues were choosing between NeroVivo, Red @ PJ Hilton and Avanti @ Sunway Lagoon Resort.  We chose Avanti because the menu suits us and it is one of the more affordable for the choices.

We make a reservation on the last week of November, as some of our members couldn’t decide on a date (some were travelling, etc) and since its the last week of November, we just went ahead to make a reservation and ended up realising that reservation wasn’t neccesary after all.  The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night.  I remember it was less than 10 tables occupied.

In general the service was kinda bad in Avanti.  I was expecting a better service.  One of the waitress was kinda rude with the expression of i-don’t-want-to-be-here kinda attitude.  But the rest of the stuff was alright.  The manager in charge even gave us a complimentary coffee after the dinner.  A complimentary glass of Prosecco (Prosecco is a sparkling wine made from grape) was served together with the Festival menu.

As usual, loads of breads with Tuna & Olive Oil

Avanti Sunway serves Italian American cuisine.  Started off the dinner with Marinated Baby Lobster with Zucchini Salad, Oven Roasted Tomato, Spring Lettuce, Cream of Scallop & Lemon Basil Oil.  The name sounds bigger than the dish itself.  LOL.

Next we were served with Butternut Squash Rissotto with Oyster Tempura.  I think this dish is the smallest dish among all but its one of the tastier one.

Next up is to *cleanse our taste bud* with the Pear and Cinnamon Sherbet.  Not one of my favourite as I don’t really fancy Cinnamon.  =)

For the Main Course, one can choose from Grilled Black Angus Tenderloin with Roasted Sweet Potato, Portobello Mushroom & Arragula Pesto OR Pan-fried Dover Sole Roulade with U.S. Asparagus, Vanilla-Bean Mashed Potato and Balsamic Reduction.

We ended the dinner with the dessert known as Bitter-Sweet Chocolate Mousse Cake with Praline Ice Cream.  The dessert is not really up to the standard as compare to the rest of the dishes in the menu.  The cake is too dry, the ice cream was already half-melted when serve.

End of the day, we were satisfied with the Main Course and the Rissotto.  The rest of the dishes was only ok.  Dessert is a disappointment.  But no fret, we shall wait for next year MIGF menu again, and of course this time, gotta choose other restaurants.

    ma,

Its RM108++ (without wine) per person. Its one of the more affordable one among the other restaurant offering the Festival Menu. But I’m sure I’m gonna try other restaurant next year!
